About Legacy

Legacy is a Skyrim Special Edition modding guide inspired by Lexy’s Legacy of the Dragonborn Special Edition. More than that, Legacy itself is an experience. From the moment you start building Legacy, throughout your in-game experiences, you will be challenged. A complete install of Legacy takes quite a bit of space. In its current state, Legacy takes approximately 150GB, not including Skyrim itself.

A Note from the Author

Welcome, thanks for stopping by!

Legacy began its life on May 28, 2019, under the name LOTD Plus. When I first approached Lexy about creating a fork of her guide, I wasn’t sure what to expect. At the time, I just wanted the stability of Lexy’s guide but tailored for the more high-end machine I was running; most of my initial changes were limited to improved graphics.

By the time LOTD Plus officially launched on August 9, 2019, I knew I wanted it to be more than “Lexy’s Plus,” but had no idea just how much that would entail. In the last year, we have built an incredible community, refined our vision for Skyrim, and begun the long process of reviewing all available mods to build our community the Skyrim they deserve. This will be a long process, but we believe that anything worth doing provides a challenge.

On Difficulty

Don’t expect to finish in a day. This guide is extremely detailed and involves some advanced modding concepts. We provide recommended breakpoints throughout the guide but don’t feel that you have to follow them. Pace yourself. Remember, the goal is to play Skyrim and enjoy it, not burn yourself out trying to put it together. We also recommend following the guide to the letter on your first build. Most of the issues we see on Discord end up being user error, though mistakes on our end do happen from time to time.

You are welcome to use the guide as a base and add or remove things according to your own preferences, but please remember that our patches are built for the guide; if you add or remove things, other things may break. Due to the exacting nature of the guide and the number of mods available, we can’t provide support for custom installs. Legacy is meticulously maintained and has proven to be consistently stable. If you finish the guide and your game doesn’t work, you almost certainly made a mistake. Ask on Discord, we’ve almost certainly seen your mistake before.

While we have built our Discord community around the idea that everyone starts as a beginner, we do expect you to be willing to help yourself. There’s no magic button that can fix all possible issues, you’ll have to put in some effort too. Please note that if you are using Legacy, or any official derivative, support is provided only through our official Discord server.

With that said, it’s time to get into the delightfully insane world of Skyrim modding!
